Funding

In 2020, the District received reimbursements from the state in the amount of $15 million, with another $35 million expected soon. These funds can only be used on facilities. We are working to convince the Board that some of this funding should be used to build pools for our high school and middle school students.

Our schools currently have baseball and soccer fields, as well as other athletic facilities, and recently built athletic fields at an off-site location in the La Costa Valley area, with approximately $11 million dollars of Prop AA funding under the $449 million bond. The construction of pools was not included in the Prop AA plans and so families have joined together with community representatives to try to bring the need for pools to the forefront.

This committee helped identify possible funding streams to potentially cover the costs of building, operating and maintaining district pools so that our district's existing operational budget was not additionally and/or unreasonably burdened. We explored reimbursement opportunities through Prop funding (e.g. AA, 51 and 39), and shared with the Board that funding could become available under state reimbursement options under the props, as well as through more traditional fundraising avenues such as naming rights, grants, and community partnerships with nonprofits and local agencies located within in the district's boundary.

We shared letters of interest with the district from community organizations as well as potential community partners interested in supporting this effort as either potential customers or operational partners. The San Dieguito Boys and Girls Club was one of the entities that submitted a letter of interest, in addition to other organizations and nonprofits, stating that it was interested in exploring a partnership were it would handle the operations and maintenance of a pool site. See letter below as an example.

If you are interested in exploring how you can support this effort to try to bring pools to our schools, please do not hesitate to contact us!
